Hello, Everyone!

AT LAST! The web site is alive and real! It has been a long time in the making but it’s finally here. I hope you visit often to catch up on the latest happenings and new releases from Primitive Traditions. Remember to use the hyphen in between “primitive” and “traditions”!!

It seems like eons have passed by since the Nashville trade show in February 2008, but in reality it’s been only a few weeks. BUT ~ they were really busy ones! I released four new designs at Nashville (it was actually 6, but 3 are grouped into one category) which have been shipped and should now be in your local shops. The Quaker Work Basket has turned out to be very popular and I thank you all for showing such an overwhelming interest in it. Most of you know they were sold out and on back order; now, I am delighted to report that as of April 22nd I will have more in stock in both the oval and round shapes. I will fill orders from shops in the order in which I receive them for as long as I have stock. Once it is gone, I do not know when I will be able to get more. They are a very popular commodity!  Please Note: not all the baskets have a perfect circular or oval shape. I have found that small irregularities are not noticeable when the top is applied. The baskets are made overseas and I do not have much control over the stock I receive. But I will do my best to offer only baskets that have a good shape. The Sarah Elliot Sewing Chests are here and in production and will be shipped near the end of April to the shops that ordered them in Nashville. The Florentine Borders Sewing Chest also is now available to shops as a finished painted chest kit that includes the charts and finishing directions for the needlework. I am continuing to offer the classes in grain-painting this chest, so if you are interested in learning about this decorative technique, let your shop or guild know, or contact me for more information. A new class piece is “in the works” (in my head only) and I will keep you posted on that as it grows and develops!

Coming soon: I have a new design to add to the Quaker Pocket Needfuls series: it is the Journal Cover. It is a cover for a small 3” x 4.5” pad of paper created specifically for this design and has many uses ~  for lists, reminders (for  those of us who don’t use Blackberries, or whatever the “newest /must have” and best tech thing is), or for jotting down notes about your day or your latest stitching project. The chart pack includes the pad, the chart for stitching the design and complete finishing instructions. The design is stitched on 40ct. Fawn and uses the same threads as the other Quaker Pocket Needfuls accessories in the series. Refills for the pad are available from Primitive Traditions. This Journal Cover completes the Quaker Pocket Needfuls series. About the end of April, I hope to release a Journal Cover for the Ladyes Pocket Needfuls series and thus complete that group as well.

After the Nashville market, I spent some much-needed “r & r” time in Sedona, Az attending a stitching retreat and then extended my stay when my husband and two of our very good friends joined me at the end of the retreat. I continued to stitch (that was such a hardshipJ) while they played golf. The weather was glorious (high 60’s and 70’s,) there wasn’t a gray cloud in sight, and the food was incredible! Side excursions to the breathtaking Grand Canyon and the delightful, quirky old mining town of Jerome added more wonderful memories to a very full week and two pieces of beautiful jewelry to my box! Below are a few pictures taken throughout the ten days; the snow on the pines and walls of Oak Creek Canyon, the beautiful red rock formations in Sedona, and one I couldn’t resist showing you taken in Jerome. Regardless of your political views this election year, that display takes first place in campaign creativity! Isn’t it a hoot??!!

As many of you know by now, I have stopped producing my line of grain-painted frames and have been immersed full time in creating stitching designs and projects. I will continue to offer classes in conjunction with the projects, whether they be stitching, finishing or painting. I will let you know what is offered from time to time in my newsletters. I do want to let you know that two fabulously talented women in Tempe, Az. have created a company called Valley House Primitives and they make beautiful grain painted custom framing. I have seen their work and it is top-notch! They have beautiful mouldings, colors and patterns to offer and I’m sure they’d love to hear from you! Their contact information is:

Well, now you know a little bit of how I spend my time – shipping orders, painting chests, designing, stitching and a little travel – well, a lot of that these past few weeks. Now that spring is here (almost), it soon will be time for a little digging in the dirt and planting flowers. I always have such high hopes they will out-grow the weeds. Maybe this is the year……………………!

Check back soon for  more news from the ‘burg!

Here’s to a lovely, warm spring wherever you live!
